Back in the day, we’d have several auditions and regular bookings down town, in person. Then I landed a gig as an imaging voice artist for a radio station and needed a home studio because the voice over requests were coming in at all hours of the day and required a quick turn around. It was time to upgrade my studio with better sound proofing and equipment so new microphones were in order. I purchased a Sennheiser MKH-416 (the standard network mic) which is fantastic for Announcers and I also decided to buy an AKG C-414B-ULS which is ideal for Animation and Video Games because they require a broader vocal range and this mic has such a warm feel to it. And remember Covid? Who can forget? Well my studio had been operating smoothly for years and I was ready. High end webcams allow me to record to picture if needed and over the years I’ve become a decent enough editor in Garage Band that I can “record on the roll” for Audio Books or “Punch and Roll” — We Voice Artists often flub our lines, but I can just punch in a fix things as I go. Audio Books have taken my love of reading to an entirely different place. They’ve made me a better writer too.
